My first inkling of Hugh McVean in the
life of my family occurred late one Friday evening in July/August
1967. Both I, and my older 20year old sister Coral, had
returned home after an evening out, separately, in Townsville. As I
walked to my bedroom past my sister's bedroom, Coral was standing in
the doorway in a seeming trance, and she said, in a fanciful tone,
"Tonight, I met the man I am going to marry."
Firstly, for comparison's sake, we have an early photo of Paul Newman.

The second characteristic of this "man" was that just a few years
prior, both his parents were killed in a collision of their car when
they were returning to Townsville from Speech night at All Souls School
in Charters Towers. Hugh McVean was a passenger in the car, and
Hugh's older Sister Alison was driving. Coral told our family,
presumably because that was the story that Hugh told her, that this
happened in Hugh's final year at All Souls School, and that he attended
The University of Queensland the following year, was a resident of
Kings College at The University of Queensland, but failed his first
year of his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree course, due to his grief and
need for re-adjustment following the loss of his parents just months
prior.
We all felt compassion for Hugh at
such a great loss when he was so young. I truly felt sympathy and
compassion for Hugh. When we met a few weeks later, Hugh had a
pronounced reticence, which I just accepted as a natural consequence of
the shock of his loss.
Now, the REALITY, the TRUTH:
The All Souls School Speech Night
fatality was a memorable event. The McVeans had left early as
they had to travel to Townsville; roughly 100kilometres away. The
Speech Night was held on the main oval at All Souls School, and was
still in progress, albeit the business of speech night was
concluded. The tragic news of the highway collision went around
the gathering like wild fire. It was devastating news.
Even today in 2009, the events of that
evening, and surrounding circumstances, are well remembered.
Imagine my surprise when I was recently informed that Hugh McVean
returned to All Souls School the following term. I then
determined to investigate.
When Hugh McVean met Coral Mathews
that was in 1967. That was Hugh McVean's first year since
graduation. His B. Pharm. was a three year degree. [It is now a
four year degree with the first year of four year graduates being the
year 2000.] Hugh had failed one year, so his senior year was 1962.
I searched the Register of Deaths:
As you can see, Hugh's father was
Alexander Cameron McVean and his date of death was 26th November, 1961,
and Hugh's mothers was Susan Mary McVean whose death occurred on 23rd
November, 1961.
What this means.
Firstly, we should ask the question as
to the purpose of the subterfuge. Hugh has never spoken of these
events to me. All the information I had previously, was from
Coral. I wonder if Coral has now been told the truth, and when or
if she has been told the reason for the subterfuge.
There are two aspects to this.
Why did Hugh McVean wish his
final year at All Souls School to 'disappear'? What is he
ashamed of what occurred in that year?
How have the events of that year
changed him or determined his 'character' since, and to this day?
It is now apparent to me that the
events of 1962 when Hugh was in senior Grade of High School were
central to the formation of the malignant fraudulent character that is
Hugh McVean today.
No doubt, with all the sympathy
given to Hugh McVean, he learned the benefit of being a victim.
The victim strategy adopted by
Hugh McVean is basically:
"Poor Hugh
McVean. He is a
good fellow who tries to help and assist and for his trouble he is
attacked by others who try to put it over on him."
Just check some
of this third party documentation mostly gained by FOI.
It would appear that Hugh McVean has rationalized that life has been so
unfair to him, by at least the loss of his parents at such an early age
and in those circumstances, that he is now free to be as unfair as he
wishes to gain what he desires. This would also appear to be the
sentiment of his older brother John McVean now
retired to Bilambil
Heights.
While reading all this material below, the reader should realize that
Hugh McVean owed me not only a duty of care, but the far more onerous
duty of a Fiduciary
Duty, because of his knowledge
of my disabilities. Instead, Hugh McVean used that knowledge
to take advantage of me and rip me off. He was assisted in this
by corrupt lawyers and the Corrupt
legal system installed by successive
labor governments of Queensland, since the Fitzgerald Commission of
the late 1980s.
